ST. AUGUSTINE, FL, March 15, 2016 – The St. Augustine Music Festival announced THE PLAYERS Championship will be a lead sponsor of its tenth-anniversary season.
The St. Augustine Music Festival, (SAMF), is the nation’s largest, free classical music festival. It presents six concerts over two weekends each June in the St. Augustine Cathedral Basilica. THE PLAYERS sponsorship will provide funding for an evening’s concert during the festival, scheduled for June 16-18 and June 23-25 this year.
“This support is both an honor and recognition that the festival rises to the stature and quality represented by THE PLAYERS,” said SAMF Artistic Director Jorge A. Pena. “It also offers a challenge to our community to step in and celebrate, with proud support, this unique cultural treasure.”
“The success of THE PLAYERS Championship depends on the support of the Northeast Florida community,” said Michele McManamon, executive director
of2016 tournament chairman of THE PLAYERS. “We recognize the importance of supporting Northeast Florida and are proud to be a lead sponsor of the St.
Augustine Music Festival.”
The music festival recently added four new members to its board of directors:
Leigh Moorhouse of Ponte Vedra, Nancy Barnes Huppert of St. Augustine, Kevin Chase and Michael A. Wodrich of Jacksonville.
The festival won national acclaim in 2015 for “St. Augustine Suite for Chamber Orchestra,” by Piotr Szewczyk, which SAMF commissioned to celebrate St. Augustine’s 450th birthday, and was heard on American Public Radio’s “Performance Today” by 1.4 million listeners. The festival will premiere a new work by another North Florida composer, Bob Moore, at this season’s June 25 concert.
Admission to the concerts is free, thanks to sponsorships and donations from supporters at every financial level. For more information, visit www.StAugustineMusicFestival.org.
THE PLAYERS is set to return to THE PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, May 10-15, 2016. More information about THE PLAYERS is available at PGATOUR.COM/theplayers.
