Florida Department of Health – St. Johns invites you and your family to participate in the inaugural Healthly Groove 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, September 26, 2015.
THIS IS A FREE EVENT! COME JOIN THE FUN!
The Healthy Groove 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run is a FREE community event to promote the Healthiest Weight Florida initiative in St. Johns County, Florida. Healthiest Weight Florida is a public-private collaboration bringing together state agencies, not for profit organizations, businesses, and entire communities to help Florida’s children and adults make consistent, informed choices about healthy eating and active living.
The race/run/walk will be held on the beach (low tide!) on Saturday, September 26th at Butler Beach. The course is out and back. It will start on the beach by Mary Street and run North towards Dondanville Road. The beach is located 2 miles south of St. Augustine Beach at 5860 A1A South. Registration will start at 9:00am and the 5K race will begin at 11:00am. The 1 Mile Fun Run will be held after the 5K. Free cool, custom t-shirts will be given out to the first 200 to register for the 5K or Fun Run. Waters bottles will also be given out!
There will be not chip timing or age group awards. There will be a large digital race clock at the finish. Participants are responsible for getting their own finish time. There will be a water station at 1.55 mile mark (halfway) and split time given.
Currently, only 35% of Floridians are at healthy weight. One quarter are obese, and the rest are overweight. On our current trend, by 2030, almost 60% will be obese. Addressing the public health threat of weight is a priority for the Department of Health. In response to the obesity epidemic, the department launched the Healthiest Weight Florida initiative in early 2013. Healthiest Weight Florida brings together state agencies, not for profit organizations, businesses, and entire communities to help Florida’s children and adults make consistent, informed choices about healthy eating and active living.
