The reviews are in and critics may be beating up Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice in their reviews, but that’s not stopping audiences from coming to the theater.
According to Box Office Mojo, the massive superhero blockbuster has racked up an estimated $27.7 million in ticket sales, setting a record for Thursday pre-show sales for an Easter weekend. This beats the record set last year by Furious 7, which brought in $15.7 million for pre-show and $147.2 million during the same holiday weekend.
Not to fan the flames of the war between DC and Marvel, but Batman V Superman also topped Avengers: Age Of Ultron for its opening night. Marvel’s big ensemble sequel pulled in $26.6 million and ended the weekend with a $191.2 million total. Based on this trajectory, the Ben Affleck/Henry Cavill smackdown is on track to break records for the biggest March opening ever and potentially the biggest DC adaptation ever beating out The Dark Knight.
Conservative reports put Batman V Superman at least $150 million during its opening weekend, but if this early trend continues, projections could be blown away, making this a great weekend for DC.
